Arthur Nortje

Exiled South African poet Arthur Nortje was born in Oudtshoorn, Cape Providence. He was educated at the University of the Western Cape (segregated at the time) and Oxford University, where he earned a BA. Nortje’s poetry was posthumously published in Anatomy of Dark: Collected Poems of Arthur Nortje (2000). The volume Arthur Nortje, Poet and South African: New Critical and Contextual Essays (2004) provides an introduction to Nortje’s life and work.
