Brittney Grimes (she/her) is a poet, editor, and violinist. Grimes published her first book of poems titled Poetry For A Child By A Child (Key-A-Teese, 1998) when she was eight years old, followed by Poetry For A Child By A Child Workbook (1st Book Library, 2000), Ice Cream Dreams (A & B Publishers Group, 2001), and The True Glory of the Christmas Story (Airleaf Publishing, 2004). Grimes and her work have been featured in Scholastic, Ebony, and Newsday, among other publications. She is the recipient of awards including the Zora Neale Hurston Literary Award given by Zeta Phi Beta and a plaque from the Wells Fargo Bank "Untold Stories Collection" for her poetry. She has spoken on CNN’s Person of the Day, Good Morning America, UPN, NBC, and Nickelodeon. In 2002, she won first place in the inaugural Gospel Poetry Category at McDonald’s Gospelfest, an annual gospel music and talent festival. She is a graduate of Hofstra University in New York.
