Candace Williams

Candace Williams (they/them) is a poet and interdisciplinary artist. Williams’ debut full-length poetry collection, I Am the Most Dangerous Thing (Alice James Books, 2023), won the 2024 Silver Nautilus Book Award and was named a “Notable Poetry Book” in the 2024 Julia Ward Howe Award from Boston Authors Club. It is also a finalist for multiple awards, including the 2024 Audre Lorde Award from Publishing Triangle, the 2024 Nossrat Yassini Poetry Prize from the University of New Hampshire, and the 2024 Housatonic Book Award from Western Connecticut State University.
Williams holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Claremont McKenna College and a Master of Arts in Education from Stanford University.
Raised in the Pacific Northwest, they discovered love and poetry in Brooklyn, New York, and now live and make art in Providence, Rhode Island.
