David Berman

David Berman was a poet and musician. Called “the poet laureate of indie rock” by the Washington Post, Berman was the cofounder of the bands Silver Jews and Purple Mountains. Berman was the author of the poetry collection Actual Air (1999, 2019). He earned his MFA in poetry from the University of Massachusetts. Of Berman’s poems, Billy Collins told the New York Times: “They are full of complex turns and tricks and conceptual hijinks, and yet there's this surface clarity. You're welcomed into the poem.”
