David Ray Vance

David Ray Vance’s poetry collection, Vitreous, was chosen by Mary Jo Bang as winner of the 2005 Del Sol Press Poetry Prize and published by Del Sol Press in 2007. Vitreous has appeared twice on the Poetry Foundation's Contemporary bestseller list. He is also the author of Radium Jaw, a chapbook published by Transparent Tiger Press. His stories and poems have appeared in such journals as Chicago Review, Denver Quarterly, Notre Dame Review, and McSweeney’s, and also in the anthologies Is this Forever or What?: Poems and Paintings from Texas (Greenwillow/ Harper Collins), and Art at our Doorstep: San Antonio Writers and Artists (Trinity UP). His poem “Unresolved,” appears in A Gathering (Haybarn Press, 2010), a letterpress edition including poems by 15 poets and featuring lithographs and color responses by Ed Colker. With his wife, Catherine Kasper, he co-edits American Letters & Commentary. A graduate of the University of Houston’s PhD program in creative writing, Vance is currently an assistant professor of English at The University of Texas at San Antonio.
