Derrick C. Brown

Derrick C. Brown is a poet, comedian, and former paratrooper based in Los Angeles, California. His books of poetry include Love Ends in a Tandem Kayak (2023) and Strange Light (2013), both published by Brown’s press, Write Bloody Publishing, which he founded in 2004. Strange Light won the 2013 Writers’ League of Texas’s Book Award for Poetry. His poetry album A Close Shave with Heaven (Sub-pop, PGF Records) was named one of Paste Magazine’s 2023 best comedy albums. Brown is also the author of books for children, including Hot Hands and the Weirdo Winter, illustrated by Matthew Carver (Write Bloody Publishing, 2010).

Brown has appeared as part of the Glastonbury Festival and The Tonight Show, and collaborates with choreographers, bands, and comedians like Kristen Schaal, David Cross, Rival Sons, Helio Sequence, Cold War Kids, Kyle Kinane, and Eugene Mirman.
