Felix Mnthali

Malawian poet and novelist Felix Mnthali was born in Selukwe, Rhodesia (now Shurugwi, Zimbabwe), and educated in Lesotho and Canada. Mnthali went into political exile in 1979 after a period of detention that ended with a government apology. His publications include the poetry collection When Sunset Comes to Sapitwa (1980) and the novel Yoranivyoto (1998). His work was included in the Penguin Book of Modern African Poetry (1984). In 2010, he retired from his nearly 28-year tenure as a professor of English at the University of Botswana and returned to Malawi.
