Francesca Lia Block is a writer of fiction, screenplays, and poetry for adults as well as for young adults. While attending University of California-Berkeley, she wrote Weetzie Bat (1989), the first novel in her Dangerous Angels series for young adults. Her latest books of fiction are Teen Spirit (2014) and Love in the Time of Global Warming (2014). Block has described her work as “contemporary fairy tales with an edge,” where the real world and its trouble find solace through the magic of creative expression and love. Her books of poetry include How to (Un)cage a Girl (2008), Open Letter to Quiet Light (2009), and Fairy Tales in Electri-City (2011).  

Block won the Margaret Edwards Award from the American Library Association in 2005 for her contribution in writing for teens. She lives in Los Angeles, where she was born and raised.
