Jake Sorgen

Jake Sorgen is a music-maker and poet based in Chicago. His writing and compositions blur borders between poetry and music, composition and improvisation. His recent works of music-poetry include “Empty Gestures” with the Invoke String Quartet, “i’ve heard you had loved me” with Ashley Bathgate on cello and electronics, the solo work “The Forgotten Suite,” and the multidisciplinary ensemble Small Giants. From 2014 to 2019, Sorgen served as Composer in Residence and Artistic Associate for the Rogue Theatre, was named the Maverick Prodigy Composer at the Maverick Concert Hall in 2018, and received a 2020 Composer’s Fellowship and a 2022 Sound Producer Fellowship from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. In 2022 he served as a Poetry Foundation Library Forms & Features Visiting Teaching Artist.
