James Naiden

1943—2016

James Naiden was the author of Summer Poems (2002), and three novels: Scuttlebone (2011), Crystals (2011), and The Chafings of Mortals (2011)He earned a BA in English and history from Seattle University. Naiden published reviews and literary essays in other publications, including Rain Taxi, the North Stone Review, and the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He was the founding editor of the literary journal North Stone Review, which published from 1972 to 2002. In the 1980s, he sponsored a North Stone Review Reading Series featuring Robert Bly, Jonis Agee, Louis Jenkins, Phebe Hanson, Ethna McKiernan, and Roy McBride, among others.

He taught English at Southern Oregon State University, the University of Arkansas, and the University of Minnesota. In addition to his writing, teaching, and journalism, Naiden worked part-time as an actor and voice talent. He lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
