Laura Purdie Salas is the author of more than 100 books of poetry and nonfiction for children and teenagers. Her poetry collections treat a wide variety of subjects, such as school, space, colors, seasons, the rain forest, and food. Her books of poetry include Flashy, Clashy, and Oh-So Splashy: Poems About Color (2008), Seed Sower: Hat Thrower: Poems About Weather (2008), Shrinking Days, Frosty Nights: Poems About Fall (2008), A Fuzzy-Fast Blur: Poems About Pets (2008), Stampede! Poems to Celebrate the Wild Side of School (2009), and Bookspeak! Poems About Books (2011).

Salas has also published instructional books for young writers, including Write Your Own Poetry (2008) and Picture Yourself Writing Poetry: Using Photos to Inspire Writing (2011).

Salas lives in the Minneapolis, Minnesota, area with her family.
