Lourdes Vázquez

Lourdes Vázquez was born in Puerto Rico and is the author of numerous works of poetry and prose. Her many collections, which have been translated by writers such as Bethany Korps-Edwards and Rosa Alcalá, include The Tango Files (translated by Brigidina Gentile, 2016); Un enigma esas muñecas (2015), which received an honorable mention for the 2014 Paz Prize for Poetry; Adagio con fugas y ciertos afectos (2013); Not Myself Without You (2012); La mujer, el pan y el pordiosero (2010); Salmos del cuerpo ardiente (2004); Samandar: Libro de viajes / Book of Travels (translated by Enriqueta Carrington, 2007); Bestiary: Selected Poems 1986–1997 (2004), which was nominated for a ForeWord Prize; La estatuilla (2004); May the transvestites of my island who tap their heels exquisitely (2004); Salmos del cuerpo ardiente (2004); Historias de Pulgarcito (1999); and La rosa mecánica (1991).

Vázquez’s writing has appeared widely in journals and anthologies and has been translated into English, Italian, Swedish, Portuguese, Romanian, and Galician. She is the recipient of a Juan Rulfo de Cuentos Award and the former curator of the Latin American collection at Rutgers University library. Her papers are held at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies Archives at Hunter College (CUNY).
