Children’s book author Marilyn Singer earned a BA in English from Queens College, City University of New York, and an MA in communications from New York University. She has written more than 100 books for children and young adults, roughly a third of them poetry. She writes about a variety of subjects, including science, animals, and school.

Her books of poetry include Follow the Recipe (2020); Who Named Their Pony Macaroni? (2019); Mirror Mirror: A Book of Reversible Verse (2010), winner of the Cybil Award for Poetry; Central Heating: Poems About Fire and Warmth (2005), an ALSC Notable Book; Creature Carnival (2004), a Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award Honor Book; On the Same Day in March (2000), named one of Booklist’s Top 10 Science Books of 2000 and an NCSS-CBC Notable Book; and Turtle in July (1989), a Time magazine Best Children’s Book. 

Singer lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her husband and various pets.
