Mark Halperin
1940—2018
Poet Mark Halperin was born in New York City and earned a BA in physics from Bard College and an MFA in creative writing from the Iowa Writers Workshop. He was the author of Backroads (1976), A Place Made Fast (1982), The Measure of Islands (1990), Time as Distance (2001), and Falling through the Music (2007). He also translated Russian poetry.
Halperin taught literature and creative writing at Central Washington State College for 36 years. He lived in Ellensburg, Washington, until his death in 2018.
