Muhammad Abdul-Hai

1944—1989

Muhammad Abdul-Hai was a prominent Sudanese poet and literary figure. He studied English literature at the University of Khartoum, and later earned a master's degree from Leeds University and a PhD from Oxford University. He was associate professor at the University of Khartoum and director-general at the Department of Culture, Sudan. He published five volumes of poetry, including his seminal work, The Return to Sinnar.
