Olivia Maciel
Olivia Maciel was born in Mexico City and has lived in Chicago since 1987. She earned a BA in Spanish and Latin American literature from the University of Wisconsin, an MA in Hispanic Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a PhD in Romance languages and literatures from the University of Chicago. She has worked as an editor, journalist, translator and professor. In 1993, Maciel was a recipient of the José Marti Literary Prize.
Four of her books of poetry have been published in bilingual editions: Mas Salado Que Dulce/ Saltier than Sweet (March Abrazo Press, 1995), Luna de Cal/ Limestone Moon (Swan Isle Press, 2000), Filigrana Encendida/ Filigree of Light (Swan Isle Press, 2002), Sombra en Plata/Shadow in Silver (Swan Isle Press, 2005). A fifth, Cielo de Magnolias, Cielo de Silencios (Pandora-Lobo Estepario Ediciones, 2015) was published in Spanish. Maciel is also the editor of the bilingual anthology Shards of Light/ Astrillas de Luz (Tia Chucha Press, 1998).
