Oodgeroo Noonuccal

Oodgeroo Noonuccal, formerly Kath Walker, was an Australian writer, activist, and educator. She is widely credited as being the Australian Aboriginal woman to publish a book of poetry. Noonuccal served in the Australian Women's Army Service and as a domestic servant before turning to writing and activism. She was a leading member of the movement to allow full citizenship to Aboriginal people. Noonuccal was the author of many books of poetry for adults and children, as well as several books of cultural criticism.
