Tove Ditlevsen

1917—1976

Tove Ditlevsen, one of Denmark's most celebrated authors, was born in 1917 in a working-class neighborhood in Copenhagen. She published her first volume of poetry when she was in her early twenties and followed it with several more books, including the Copenhagen Trilogy: Childhood (1967), Youth (1967), and Dependency (1971). There Lives a Young Girl in Me Who Will Not Die (FSG, 2025), translated by Sophia Hersi Smith and Jennifer Russell, is the first English-language volume of her poetry. Ditlevsen died in 1976.
