Vivian Gornick is a critic, journalist, essayist, and memoirist. She earned a BA from City College of New York in 1957 and an MA from New York University in 1960. She worked as a reporter for the Village Voice from 1969 to 1997, and she has published work in the New York Times, The Nation, and the Atlantic Monthly. Her numerous books include Unfinished Business: Notes of a Chronic Re-Reader (2020); The Odd Woman and the City (2015); The Men In My Life (2008), a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award; and Essays in Feminism (1978). She lives in New York City.
