Jeffrey Pethybridge

Jeffrey Pethybridge grew up in Virginia. He earned a BA from Old Dominion University, a MA from Boston University, and a PhD from the University of Missouri. He is author of the poetry collection Striven, The Bright Treatise (2013), named a best debut collection by Poets & Writers magazine. In the Rumpus, Jody Smiling declares the book to be “as visual, tactile and melodious as it is analytical and historically referential. It is a rhetoric lingering in preterition, challenging our cultural, philosophical, personal and political ideas of death as impermanent and suicide as choice.”

Pethybridge’s work has appeared in journals and anthologies, including Best American Experimental Writing, the Chicago Review, Poor Claudia, and New American Writing. He is poetry editor of the web journal Likestarlings and managing director of the Summer Writing Program at Naropa University; he also teaches in the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics. Pethybridge lives in Denver, Colorado, with his wife, poet Carolina Ebeid. Together they host Lord Weary’s Reading Series and edit the zine Visible Binary.
