Kenderick Richardson

Luther Hughes (they/them) is the author of A Shiver in the Leaves (BOA Editions, 2022) and the chapbook Touched (Sibling Rivalry Press, 2018). They are the founder of Shade Literary Arts, an organization for queer writers of color, and co-host The Poet Salon podcast with Gabrielle Bates and Dujie Tahat. Hughes earned a BA from Columbia College Chicago and an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis. Their writing has appeared in various journals, and they’ve been featured in The Seattle Times, Essence, and ForbesWomen and on KUOW Public Radio.

Hughes has worked as an editor for Habitat magazine, Columbia Poetry Review, Frontier Poetry, YesYes Books, and The Offing. In 2020, they received a Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship and were a winner of the 92Y Discovery Poetry Contest.

They live in the South End of Seattle, where they were born and raised.
